(More customer reviews)Among Lego train collectors, the Metroliner is one of the most prized. The first version (4558) came out in 1991 and the second (10001) in 2001. Unfortunately, Lego discontinued the 9 volt train format (which uses electrified rails) in 2007. Extra track and spare motors have become increasingly rare and more expensive with time. Obviously this is not a problem if you are a collector (hey, you want the sets to appreciate in value), but if you are buying for a child and have some expectation of expanding your set, you should consider the currently available Lego trains (four new ones were introduced in 2010). The current Lego trains use Power Function motors and remote controls.
Cheers
