LeapFrog Learning Town Happy Home Review

We bought this toy for my daughter for Christmas. She was 8 months old at the time. She loved it then and still enjoys it now, especially since we added the barn and car wash for her 1st birthday. They all work together well. The blocks are also fun to use as blocks (stacking and building, etc.)The songs and phrases are cute and often elicit a giggle from her. I would recommend this toy, we love it!

LEGO Trains Level Crossing 7936 Review

This is a great little set. Lego comes out with level crossings every once in a while. The last one was in 2003 and was a very complicated affair. The problem with a complicated level crossing is that you often want more than one crossing for your train layout. This set, by contrast, is a very simple one, just four pieces of straight track (which you can never have enough of), ramps, crossing arms, signals, a maintenance-of-way (MOW) crane, and a single mini-figure. You can get a few of them without going overboard. And everything in the set is terribly useful. I very much like the MOW vehicle, which has flip down wheels for running on the rails. If you end up buying more than one of these sets, you can easily modify the vehicle; railroads have many different types of these.
A word about the track: this set is part of a larger roll out of Lego's new generation of trains (i.e., Power Function or PF trains). If you have the earlier 9 volt series, the track included with this set does not have metal on the rails and will not be able to power the 9 volt motors. If you have any of the RC sets, this crossing has the exact same track.

LEGO City Train Station 7937 Review

This train station is part of a larger roll out of Lego's new generation of trains (i.e., Power Function or PF trains). If you have the earlier 9 volt series, the track included with this set does not have metal on the rails and will not be able to power the 9 volt motors. If you have any of the RC sets, this station has the exact same track.
This is a small station with platforms on each side of the track connected by an overhead pedestrian bridge. It has four pieces of straight track, a small yellow taxi, and four mini-figures. The station is reminiscent of a classic Lego design (#7822) from 1980. The snack shop is simple but nicely detailed with a sliding door, drinks and a cash register. The taxi is fine, but it has no doors and requires (like many current vehicles) that you lift the top off to put mini-figures inside. I have mixed feelings about the pedestrian bridge. It turns out quite large when you build it, in part because of the use of the single-piece trusses. I would have preferred something more brick-built. The overall color scheme is great and matches the new passenger train (#7978) that Lego released alongside this.
This set replaces #7997 which was discontinued in late 2009. I would expect Lego to keep this in production for the next two to three years.
