(More customer reviews)I really wanted to give this product 5 stars, but it is not as advertised so I am only going to give it 4. It is still a great product.
I purchased this item on Amazon specifically because it was not the same unit that was available at Target retail stores. The track at the stores comes with a charger and a car but not the starter or the lap counter. This one is advertised as coming with the started and lap counter but not the car or charger. The cars and chargers are available at target seperately but I have not found the starter or lap counter available seperately.
I received the shipment today and it is the same unit as is available at Target, with the car and charger. I am disappointed. Also, since it is from Target you have to pay sales tax. Therefore I didn't get anything that I couldn't have gotten from our local Target (for the same price) but I had to pay shipping for this one.
I will be contacting them to see if it is posisble to get the unit advertised. If it is, I will add another review.

Hot Wheels Starter Set Review

(More customer reviews)My 5 year old received this for Christmas. He nearly jumped out of his skin when we finally go it set up and running. But there's more to this story.
The first set we got had a WRONG curved track piece, which prevented me from setting it up Christmas day. To MATTEL's credit I called their 800 number and they immediately shipped a complete set replacement. ( I'm now a customer for life, kudos MATTEL, etc...) A week or so later, we received a full replacement set at no cost, without sending back the original. No slam against Mattel since their no-hassle replacement policy is awesome, **BUT** the replacement set was also missing a piece! ( a straight track was absent this time) Fortunately, between the two sets, I had enough pieces to set it up, and for 19.95, it was still a good deal. Just wish their Chinese factories had better quality control.
My two son's (5 and 2 1/2) were in rapture for the first 30 minutes. As advertised, it only works with the some Hot Wheels vehicles. The sleeker and lighter the toy car, the better. The motor accelerates cars so fast, you can't see them. We got about 3 cars on a track before they started to crash or pile up, which is part of the fun. The two sets together gave us two race cars, two motors, and enough tracks to build a good sized set.
Summary:
* Mattel's replacement policy is GREAT. No returns required in my case so I ended up with slightly less than two full sets.
* If you're not on a strict time line for a birthday/holiday, and you're ok with Mattel's week long, no-hassle replacement experience, I strongly recommend you get this starter set.
If you're looking for a better gift for the 3-5 age group with more re-playability, I recommend wooden train sets.

Hot Wheels Color Shifters Custom Color Shop Review

The color changing car works great, but the waterfall is impossible to set off and runs out so quickly that unless your timing is perfect, you'll miss it. The blaster only works about one out of every five times, making it even more difficult to change the car under the waterfall. We've never achieved it. I am actually offended that Hot Wheels is selling this. I don't see how ours could be defective considering how wide-ranging the problems are.

Hot Wheels Criss Cross Crash Track Set Review

(More customer reviews)It's not that easy to get four cars going around the track. The track is small and the cars go whipping by quickly. The motors launch the cars pretty fast so that they get around the steep banked curves (or they fall off). The four 'D' batteries must be in top notch condition as each car will decrease the motor speed slightly as the car travels through the launcher housing. The motors must recover their speed before the next car arrives or else it won't launch it fast enough and the car will fall off the curve. Given the variables at play: batteries, car quality, track placement wobbliness, user's ability to time it just right, I found this toy somewhat frustrating. When I tried only two or three cars, they'd traverse the track just fine, go for awhile, and eventually one or all would fall off the track, but seldom crash. The more cars, the higher the likelihood of a crash, but getting more cars on the track is a pain (maybe fun for some). Overall, I don't like this Hot Wheels set and wouldn't recommend it. If the product had only been $20, I'd have given this 3 stars, but at $40 it is not worth it. One last minor gripe is that the battery housing is too tight (it's harder than it needs to be to insert/remove the 'D' cells) and the cheap battery cover barely stays in it's hinges.

Unfortunately, the Fire Station was hard to find and more expensive. I was expecting at least the same number of pieces as the Police Headquarters which had cost $20 and had 3 pieces. The Fire Station only came with 2 pieces and there wasn't much to it.

Hot Wheels Trick Tracks Cyborg Blaster Starter Set Review

(More customer reviews)What ~should~ be a surefire hit sadly turns out to be a mega-missile miss-fire!
For starters, the plastic robots' footholds are pretty unstable, so any slight
unintended jolt will knock them over before you even start your Hot Wheels engines.
While the two included lipstick-sized rubber-tipped mega-missiles look and feel
like fire-power fun and will launch automatically when inserted into the Cyborg Blaster's
arm-hand-cannon, it is difficult to figure out how to get it to fire once you twist
the mechanism back by the Cyborg's hips.
Also not right is the car-driven reflex-pot mechanism that's supposed to trigger the action;
in this set, it doesn't really hit off.
Furtherless, the slot launcher of the smaller target droid doesn't get off either, seemingly stuck in its to-launch position.
(Will it take a kid's finger off when it does eject? Don't take a chance.)
So FAIL-FAIL on both ends of this misguided Rube Goldberg cyborging nightmare.
In the end, you're left to cannibalize parts, hardly worth the price of admission (of this cyborgian failure).
If Uncle Owen bought this Cyborg Blaster set from Jawas, he would surely be upset
and say, "Hey, what are you trying to pull on us?!"
Why did Hot Wheels put this particular half-baked contraption on the market for the consumer to be disappointed by?
They should know better and do better for their fan base.
Don't trust this Cyborg Blaster caster to work properly! Don't spend any money on it!

Hot Wheels Super Jump Raceway Review

(More customer reviews)I only bought this because my 4-year old would have nothing else; I had low expectations after reading the reviews and was pleasantly surprised. Several cars work on the track and can make several laps. If the first jump doesn't work, just try placing it on the figure '8'. The video is to show how the cars go around, and how much fun kids and adults had with the toy, with apologies for the unedited format. Perhaps this will clarify what you are getting and how it works.
