(More customer reviews)I got this set last year, it was my first "Christmas" set from LEGO (besides Advent Calendars), and now LEGO is replacing our other little pottery Christmas village that we used to set up every year. With two dogs we can't run the LEGO train around the tree, so we've got a table set up with a small train loop and this set on it and a few bits and pieces from LEGO Advent Calendars.
It comes with a "Santa" in a little swivel chair, working up in his workshop while toys are in display in the store below. The fairly rare "lighted brick" creates a really neat effect if you are displaying in lower lighting. The large tree is also a treat for LEGO fans; while the set comes with the smaller molded trees, the parts to make the larger and much more realistic tree are always interesting, as are the "lights" to put around the tree. Rounding it out are a classic park bench, carolers, and a very nice lamp post.
Coming in at over 800 pieces, it's a bargain for the MSRP, especially considering all the minifigures it comes with and the lighted brick.
It's a shame that the LEGO Company limits releases like this, as you can see a lot of reviewers complaining about jacked up prices on the secondary market, but I think this is what happens when you release a limited number and a different holiday set every year. That said, keep an eye out for the upcoming candy shop... it looks like it might even be better than the Toy Shop.
