Learning Curve Take Along Thomas and Friends - Gordon Review

These trains are not compatible with the wooden set but are wonderfully portable, durable and much more reasonably priced than the wooden set. I can fit a huge set into a storage bin that slides under the bed rather than have trains taking over my house.

He's goodhearted, though, and always willing to forgive, and use his superior strength to help smaller engines out of trouble. Thomas and Friends Wooden Railway - Express Coaches Learning Curve Review

Thomas and Friends Wooden Railway - Express Coaches Learning Curve

I bought my three-year-old son the express coaches (there's two cars in the pack) for Christmas. They're very durable, and they have independent front and back wheels, so they handle curves well for their length (they're quite long cars.) Their height, though, can be a problem if you're train encounters a change of grade (going up or down hill.)
My son insists on his train in a specific order, and that order has the coaches together. On the Figure-8 track, the tops of the cars hit each other when going up the hill, causing the cars to separate. It's such an inconvenience that my son separates all cars so they go over the hill one-at-a-time. The height is not a problem going under the bridge though.
They're very rugged (a must for my son) and work very well on flat track (I haven't experienced any problems with curves yet) but for track that rises or lowers there's a significant problem with having these two cars adjacent on the train.

The Express Coaches are popular with passengers because they ride smoothly and have extra comfortable seats. The coaches are usually pulled by Gordon, but James sometimes helps out too. Includes two Express Coaches.

Thomas the Train: Take-n-Play Gordon's Snowy Special Review

Thomas the Train: Take-n-Play Gordon's Snowy Special

I'm not sure what triggers things in my daughter, but one day she suddenly exclaimed "I love Gordon. I miss him." She has a lot of trains both wooden, trackmaster, and take along, but none are Gordon. She hadn't even watch a Thomas episode in weeks (it used to be daily). So after a few days of this I broke down and got her this as a prize for being good. She picked it out from photos of Gordon toys online. I think her favorite things about this one was that it came with extra trucks and it was snow flocked (her favorite engines are often the painted "situation" ones). After telling her that it would come on an airplane and come in a box on Monday, she was very excited and to this day still tells people that "Gordon came airplane in box on mongaday"... They have no idea what she's talking about. She carries it around and the trucks move from engine to engine, but she really treasures this one.
