(More customer reviews)I got this for my 3 year old son who loves trains. I never knew how challenging putting a train track together with only a picture was until this train set. The directions consist of different train track configurations. I went with the one shown on the outside of the packaging. It does require batteries which are not included. Look at the box for the directions (a picture) of how to put the batteries in the train. There's no screwdriver needed, but I'd rather one was because it would be easier. The train's noise is very loud and obnoxious which my son loved but gave me a headache. Once I got it all set up and turned it on, my son loved it. The train had problems going up the hill (like the load was too heavy) twice and I had to give it a shove to get it going again. It also got stuck going down the hill quite a bit like it was catching on the track, but I couldn't see where it was catching on anything. After we watched it go on its own a little, I let my son have a go at it. Unfortunately, he didn't want to watch the train go around the track. He wanted to make the train move himself, but the train isn't really designed for that. He would grab the train to move it but it would cause at least one of the trains to come off the track and/or one of the trains to unhook from the others. This caused frustration because he couldn't get the train back properly on the track nor could he connect the trains together. Every few seconds he was asking for help to get everything back on the track. I tried turning off the train and letting him play that way, but he didn't want to without the obnoxiously loud noise. It does work if you put the trains on a hard floor, but he wanted them on the track because that's where trains belong. Overall, I think it might be better for an older child.
