These are what makes the noise when the button is pushed, so the noise is not at all what a real hedge trimmer sounds like. But my son loves the pull start and I love that it doesn't need batteries so these benefits outweigh that. You have to pull the pull start several times to wind it up and then press the button to make it go. As someone who has played yard working with my son over and over and over I appreciate that it gives you something to do other than just pushing a button.
