(More customer reviews)We have this toy, plus the Thomas and The Sodor Fair and the big set with a crane and bridge and a quarry. Our 2 and a half son has been playing with them, adding one after another gradually, for over a year now, and he still loves it. Compared to a railroad set, even with a battery-operated train, he likes this one better because there is much to do. Perhaps there is not much educational value if you think of education as learning letters and numbers, but fine motor skils can sure benefit from this toy.
The child can play by himself, but to assemble the thing initially to look like the picture, an adult needs to help. The instructions were very easy to follow (even the really big set), and I put it together in no time, even with my son's help. The sets can be added onto each other, the various configurations of one or several of them seem endless, and sometimes we build really weird things out of it. The pieces of the little set of Elmo The Fireman can also be used with these. Daddy and son build and re-build great stuff. The one issue we had with this set, is that the little yellow crane broke fast. But overall, how much the toy has been played with, it is good quality.There are so many ways to assemble these sets, just let your imagination run. My son even build "an Eiffel Tower" out of it, and he is 2 :-).
I recommend this toy for any boy who likes building stuff and taking them apart.
