(More customer reviews)My 2.5 year old LOVES Thomas and this was the perfect puzzle toy for him. He learned to put it together in a couple of days and now routinely dumps out the pieces and assembles it. He definitely is learning spatial awareness/connection with the shapes and colors and image. I think he could have done this 6 months or more ago, too, if you're wondering what age to start. He has begun to be mildly bored with it mainly b/c it's easy for him now, but I suspect if we put it away for 2 weeks he'll be back on it.
