(More customer reviews)When buying O-gauge 3-rail track the two most prominent choices are: Lionel FasTrack and RealTrax.
For realism I prefer FasTrack. The roadbed is a pale gray and the ties are more realistically spaced. They are too far apart on RealTrax. FasTrack is beautiful, and fits together very easily, but one cannot span an empty spot of much length as a result.
For sturdiness, RealTrax wins. It can support a heavy train over short bridge spans without buckling or bending much.
But this strength is also its problem. The track units fit together with much more difficulty than does the FasTrack. It is quite difficult to fit them together, but are locked tightly when you do. Also, the third rail of the RealTrax is often differently painted so all sizes do not match perfectly. Some have a black rail in the middle, some have black only on the sides of the rails, making joints more noticeable.
FasTrack has the edge over-all.
