(More customer reviews)The idea is that you create tracks with the roller pen, and the Thomas follows them. It is hard to create perfect tracks with the water pen (which is really hard to open to refill), and so the train usually cannot follow them for long. My son likes to use the regular pen to draw on it, but then it's not much different from draw and erase boards (except you have to wait for the water to dry to draw again). Also if anything oily gets on it, it permanently stains it.
