(More customer reviews)We purchased this train set because of the large G-scale size. It is a large train with a large track. It would be a bit big to leave set up for the hobbyist but is a great size to run around the Christmas tree or to just set up and have fun with the kids which is what we bought it for. The kids love it and so do I.
It has realistic light, sound and smoke. The tender has a switch that controls the sound volume. It is easy to set up. It has 12 curved pieces and 10 straight sections. It says that it has enough track to make a 92" x 52" oval track but we measured ours and ours was even a little bit bigger than that. The engine is 18" long. It has a tender, freight box car, 2 flat cars and a caboose.
It says that it diecast engine and wheels but there is alot of plastic on the engine. We have older smaller trains that feel mostly diecast but this one looks mostly plastic but you can feel the weight of the diecast in it when you pick it up.
Overall, we are very pleased with this set. It is an electric set with transformer and many of the big sets are battery operated so this one gets a thumbs up.
