The Acela Express locomotive is extremely fast and powerful in real life and in HO Scale. A Few Notes:
The "Dummy" locomotive has DCC controlled lighting, so make sure you have them both on the track when programming. It's also much lighter as it has no heavy motor.
As in real life, the Acela Express is a trainset and can only be coupled to its own cars (sold separately).
The couplers, despite being very simple, are much more fragile than the standard Mark II couplers found on the rest of the Bachmann products. I managed to break one during a routine (high speed) switch-related derailment. Although I was able to glue it, Bachmann's website has replacements (of which I ordered several).
I've read elsewhere that they occasionally ship with the internal power switch set to Pantograph (not rail). Mine didn't.

Acela® Express locomotives and passenger cars are available individually. Modelers can accurately duplicate Amtrak‘s standard eight-car, high-speed commuter train by adding additional passenger cars to the Spectrum® Acela® Express train set. The separate sale cars also allow rail enthusiasts to build their own train one car at a time.
