Pros:
Very detailed and realistic.
Drives quietly and can achieve impressive low speeds.
Electrical contacts are in tender, far away from driving wheels, which seems to help it over the random "dead spots" compared to other locomotives.
Cons.
Had to change out the realistic coupler to match my cheap rolling stock
Due to the tight turn radius of most HO track, the locomotive creaks and occasionally pops off on complex turns (like turning right then left without any straight track in between).
The most useful measurement of any HO locomotive is (in my opinion) how well it performs on the slower settings, and this locomotive can pull a full train at the lowest possible setting. By contrast, the diesel locomotives that came with my Life-Like Trains HO Scale Super City Elevated Rails Double Electric Train Set need to be around 25% to do anything other than light up.
At this price (and the fact that the box says ages 14 and up) I'd like to reiterate that this is a model not a toy and it makes a fine addition (or primary attraction) for any model railroad enthusiast.
