(More customer reviews)I was skeptical because of the other review but it was on sale so i thought I would try it. Well It arrived and I was trying to put cars under it without connecting it to any additional track. I could not get it to read any thing. It would not recognize a single train car even the engine recognition ones. I was going to send it back but then I decided I should actually test it with additional track attached to. It works flawlessly. if the door is closed it will not recognize the engines by name but instead make a train sound. This sound it different when you use an engine recognition car opposed to a regular train car. All regular train cars will activate a handful of sounds. The engine recognition trains will activate an exclusive surprise sound. When the door is open the engine recognition trains will be recognized by name. the ones without that technology will still be recognized but not by name or type, mostly sound and generic sayings. I have several engine recognition trains and it didn't miss once, even if it does, it will still make a sound that all kids will enjoy. I did notice that the engine did need to be pulled through to actually recognize it. If you put it over the sensor and just leave it there, it might not actually recognize it until it is moved a little further. The barrel loader is different. You turn the knob on the top and a barrel falls down to the above platform. Then you press another switch to make it fall towards either the left or right depending on where the cargo car is. I had no problem with this but I could see a 2 year old getting a little frustrated if they don't have the cargo car lined up, or they might just laugh as it falls. I would defiantly recommend this. It is interactive in so many ways.
