OK, I bought this toy for my son on good faith based on one review. I thought it looked adorable, and even though it was more expensive than other similar toys, based on the cuteness and the review, I decided to go for it. Boy, was that a mistake. First of all, it arrived in a musty, dusty, misshapen box that made me wonder if it had been in someone's attic for twenty years. As I began to pull out the individual components and examine them, it became very clear that I had grossly overpaid for the product. It is small, but I have no real complaints with that. I was fully aware of its size before it arrived. The problem is that it is poorly constructed and looks used. I'm not even joking. Either this thing was repurposed, or it was a display model that got a LOT of use. The workmanship is terrible. I have seen way nicer pinewood derby cars made by eight-year-olds. Everything is sloppily glued together with no care taken for placement or levelness. The wheels wobble terribly. The paint is spotty and splotchy. The glue is distractingly visible and globbed on, etc. etc. I was embarrassed to show it to my husband before we put it under the tree on Christmas Eve. I had picked it out for my 2 1/2-year-old as his gift from "Santa." Needless to say, my husband wasn't too thrilled that we paid $30+ dollars for it. Well, Christmas came and my son loved it. He spent nearly the whole day scooting it around the floor, playing with the little men and racing the cars. He has been totally appropriate with it (I haven't seen him throw it, drop it or step on it), but it has been falling apart for a good two weeks now...just glued pieces coming off one by one. First it was a wheel coming off a dowel, then another wheel, then a trim piece, and most recently, the piece on the front of the trailer. Unfortunately, that piece is required if you want to hitch the little truck to the trailer. Quite simply, the craftsmanship and care put into this toy was lousy, and we wasted money on something that's destined to be in the trash within the week. My kids have lots of wood toys (I buy them because they hold up better and I don't have to worry about the chemicals that are in all these plastic toys) and until now, I've never had one that wasn't a five-star in my book.
FYI, I very rarely leave reviews, and when I do, they're always positive. I've never bought something that was so bad I felt like taking the time to leave a negative review...until now. What's unfortunate is that with just a little care, this could've been a great toy. It is very cute from a distance (when you can't see all the flaws) and the design is a plus. The little men are totally adorable with their little rope arms. I would say if you want to pay way too much for a decorative piece that will only be seen from five or more feet away, then this would work for you.
