(More customer reviews)I bought one of these for my son from a local retail store. He was very excited to have a R/C vehicle that he could take in the dirt. We took it out of the box, got it all juiced up with new batteries and took it outside for some offroad action. It drove great on the driveway and the street on the way to the vacant lot, but as soon as it encountered anything other than hard surfaces it disappointed immediately. As soon as it hit the grass it stopped and could not move at all. I picked it up and moved it to the dirt. The dirt was a mix of hard packed dirt and hard packed dirt with about 1/8" of loose sand on top that the rain washed in. It managed to drive most of the time with an occasional hang up when the tires would just spin in the sand and not get traction. Within 3 minutes, the steering ceased to function it seems that some sand worked its way into the gearbox or motor for the stearing. It's understandable that this would cause a malfunction, but shouldn't an R/C vehicle advertised for offroad use be sealed up well enough to prevent this from happening? Within another 5 minutes or so, sand had worked its way into the drivetrain for the rear wheels causing them to hang up such that you have to pick up the vehicle, spin the wheels by hand to clear the jam and then return to normal operation (minus the apparently permanently disabled steering) for a few minutes until it jams again and you must repeat the process. It drives fine on hard surfaces so if your kid just wants to drive it inside or outside on the driveway, street, etc, then it will work fine. However, it does not work at all satisfactorily for offroad driving, the purpose for which it is advertised.
