(More customer reviews)I am very disappointed in the quality of the doll packaging on the Sparkling Pink Barbie Gift Set and in the doll's hair. Granted, I only paid [...] from their Barbie Collector site, but when I tried to remove a Sparkling Pink Gift Set Barbie from the packaging for display, there was NO WAY to remove the doll without destroying the gift set box.
In addition to the quality - the clothes for the Sparkling Pink doll do NOT FIT! The one-shoulder blouse has the two snaps so far off-set that they do not snap. The straight skirt also has the snaps so far apart, they barely snap. Also, the doll's hair is so sparse in the back, it barely covers the nape of her neck. It looks like the doll head has already had a lot of play time. The lack of attention to details like this tells me a lot about their quality control - it's missing! I wonder if the fact that the clothing does not fit the dolls is the reason for slashed sale price of [...], when the original price was over [...]? If so, that fact should have been disclosed.
Why does Mattel insist on poking a hole through every fine fabric costume on collectible dolls with a needle and thread or plastic t-punch?
After the millions of dolls they have sold, could their staff devise a way to keep the doll in the box without having to sew the dress to the box? It was impossible to remove the doll without ripping the cardboard from her arms.
Even if the collector wishes to display the doll and clothing outside the box, one must carefully try to remove the thread or the snaggy t-punch - which still leaves the hole poked through the fabric.
All in all, the doll has a resemblance of the original doll and fashions, but really, why would someone pay this much money for a doll's fashions with holes punched through the fabric? These outfits in particular had holes punched in the evening coat, the one-should blouse and in the bolero - all in the front - very visible! In addition a t-punch was punched through the single cotton thread on the evening coat. Once I cut through the t-tie, the thread had frayed and will soon separate if used to close the evening coat.
I contacted the Customer Service department with my concerns and got a canned reply that they would refund the money or replace the gift set if was one was available, and if I pay for shipping and insurance to get it back to them!
They punched holes through Priscilla's wedding gown - in the front, punched holes in the 50th Anniversary Barbie gown, and all of the other annivesary special doll outfits.
In balance, I must say that the graphics on the gift set box were great - too bad the quality didn't translate into the doll and fashions inside.
Madame Alexander dolls are nestled securely in their boxes with a ribbon. Why can't Mattel do the same with their collector dolls?
This will probably be the last time I'll pay for a colllector doll from Mattel unless the attention to detail improves.
I would issue a challenge to anyone who has purchased this doll to fit the one-shoulder blouse on the doll. Let me know how you got it to fit!
