He likes it, and we run races and go through obstacle courses I set up. Car is definitely for indoors only.
The car runs great and hard-wood floors, and runs a little slower on low carpet. But steering is a little unpredictable. On both surfaces, if you turn a direction and then try to go straight, it takes a while for the wheels to come back to the straight position. And if you try to go straight back on hard-wood floors, after a half-second, the wheels start oscillating left-right-left-right. My son thinks it's funny. Thankfully, you don't drive backwards much.
Though they're trucks, the only obstacles they can go over are gentle ramps and slight bumps.
The cars are really small, which is good for carrying around and taking to friends' houses. The cars recharge from the base controller, which is cool. We're not bothered by having to recharge every 10 minutes or so, because we don't run the cars continuously more than a few minutes. And they recharge fast!
I've had the front wheels pop out of their steering mechanism a couple times. You can pop them back in, so no problem there.
$20 is a little pricey for such a small toy, but given the intricate design needed to put a motor, steering, and suspension in the car, it's justifiable.
FYI, I had to return one car because it stopped running after the 1st recharge. I've had no problem with the replacement and the other car I bought.
