On a recent visit to a local zoo, my wife and I allowed each of our kids to pick a toy to take home as a souvenir. My son picked Wild Republic's Safari Express train set. The set comes with six track pieces that are easily assembled together. They are also very easy to take apart, which lead to pieces going missing in a short amount of time. Luckily I've managed to help my son keep "track" of his tracks between pieces going missing. The set also comes with an engine with plastic pieces (some of which have already broken) and a very sensitive on/off switch. Also included are a coal car and a caboose and a switching signal.
The set is generic and most likely available at most smaller zoos that rely on mass produced products to sell as gifts. There's no indication on the train as to where it was purchased from (i.e. the name of the zoo), but that's no surprise based on the size of the zoo I purchased it from.
Overall, this train set will keep an older child occupied for a short amount of time. However, the six track pieces only set up in a circular formation, so there's not much room for bigger adventures. Luckily, the train and its cars can also run off of the tracks. My son prefers to run them across the living room floor and the kitchen table instead of on the track.
Aside from the fact that this set can run without the use of tracks, there's no real incentive for buying this small train set unless your child really, really enjoys trains (as my son does).
Parents purchase with caution.
